A planned community on mixed ground
Lantana is a master-planned community in unincorporated Denton County, built on former Rayzor Ranch land beginning in 1999. There is no city government. Water, sewer, and drainage run through Denton County Fresh Water Supply Districts 6 and 7.
The soil is a mix. USDA soil maps show Wilson clay loam in some parts of Lantana, a heavy clay that shrinks and swells, and Callisburg fine sandy loam in others, with sandy topsoil over clay. Before you plant, dig a test hole and fill it with water. If it is still full the next day, build the bed up and amend it before planting.
The water district's drought plan follows the Upper Trinity Regional Water District's stages. When a watering schedule is in effect it runs by address: Sundays and Thursdays for even-numbered addresses, Saturdays and Wednesdays for odd. Hand watering, drip, and soaker hoses are allowed at any time. The district posts current announcements on its website.
